Welcome to the official Team Beer Me Charity Golf Outing Website!

Back in the late 90's a couple groups of guys (more like drunken wanna-be has-been) got together to play roller hockey in the first ever summer roller hockey league offered by The Plex. Two teams comprised of many current Beer Me players played against each other in that first season. Stellar defenseman Greg Peckham started up a team named Center Ice (aptly named after the hockey pro shop he owns) and fellow Beer Me player Scott "the toothless wonder" Collins put together a team loosely sponsored by Hooters resturant. The two teams would play each other many times over the next few years and they realized the core circle of friends and teammates all played together outside of the Plex, so why not at the Plex too? Over the next few summers the two teams played against each other many times and every time they played they found themselves hanging out after the games, either in the parking lot or at Hooters. In the summer of 2001 Center Ice members Greg "I spell my name wrong on my jersey" Peckham, Fred "what did he say" Legere, and Nate "don't know where he's going but he gets there fast" Klaehn joined forces with the Hooters team members Scott Collins, Gary "fireworks" Graham, and Phil "git-r-done" Claus and started what would later become Hooters.

In the summer of 2002 Hooters started a new goalie in net, Mike "Rock" Rauch. Defenseman Gary Graham talked Rock into playing while they attended Ball State together and ironically enough, played hockey together. In the summer of 2002, team Hooters would take part in the first summer roller hockey tournament hosted by the Plex. Hooters would go on to dominate the tournament eventually winning and they received a cash prize. As the team celebrated their victory with their usual tailgate, they talked about what to do with the prize money. They all agreed to spend it on new team jerseys, since their current Hooters jerseys were so HOT. As Fred Legere and Greg Peckham sat and talked over a couple brews hours after everyone else had left, one of the two requested another frosty beverage with the common phrase, "BEER ME!!!" Normally you'd say that the light bulb went off, this time fireworks went off! (pun intended)

In the summer of 2003, as the guys got back together for the next summer's session of hockey, they were now know as BEER ME for the first time. The tradition of 3 beers before and 5 beers after was the driving force behind the team. They made a habit of meeting before the games for a few drinks to get them ready for the game. After their wins (and rare losses) the BEER ME guys would have what became their infamous tailgate. The game was merely the reason to get together once a week. Somehow with all the drinking and fun, they turned out to be a pretty good team. Over the course of the next few years the Team BEER ME name would be synonymous with domination. BEER ME would go on to win nine consecutive league championships, 6 playoff championships, and another tournament championship. From their inception in 2003 to their six year anniversary in 2008, BEER ME has racked up a record of 97-12-4.

Over the years BEER ME has seen some changes to their roster. Due to work scheduling, BEER ME enforcer Deano "blue yummies" Boesch has been unavailable to play, but still will tailgate when he can. There have been other "one session" players come and go, but the addition of two time combat veteran defenseman Derek "ZERO sense of humor" Gerardot and goaltender Jeremy "pretty boy" Krause have proved to be great for the future of BEER ME.

As you can imagine everyone on the team has taken the pre-game ritual a little too far and had to play absolutely plowed. There is no better form of entertainment then watching someone lacking all their coordination attempt to play roller hockey. The greatest example was when a long time BEER ME defenseman decided to take a day of drinking on the golf course, right into that nights game. Lets just say he seemed to have a tough time keeping his shin pads on and skating backwards. This is just one of the many stories of BEER ME and if you ever join for a tailgate, just ask for a few stories because it will make for hours of fun.

Notably BEER ME has also been active in the Ice Hockey community by playing in the Fort Wayne Summer Tournament for the past three years and in 2007 BEER ME won the men's 'B' division championship, which was the first Ice Hockey Tournament championship for BEER ME. BEER ME also took part in the first year of a new league named the CAHL. BEER ME went on a tear finishing the regular season play with an impressive unbeaten record of 8-0-2 and then posting two victories in the playoffs on their way to the first ever CAHL Championship and the Lindburg Trophy.

In 2005 this site was started by goalie turned defenseman Mike Rauch, and it has further stretched the BEER ME name out to the masses. In the summer of 2007 BEER ME was featured in an article in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette newspaper and mentioned on local radio station, 98.9 the Bear's TNT Morning show, where the nickname "EVIL EMPIRE" was given to the team by local DJ, Parker Thomas. As BEER ME looks to reach their potential inside and outside the hockey community, BEER ME put on a charity golf outing last August for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Through the effort of many generous volunteers, BEER ME was able to raid $1,455 to donate to the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

The future still seems bright for BEER ME, and love them or hate them, BEER ME has kept true to the principals set forth from the beginning. They always make sure to have fun and enjoy each others company. So if you are ever in the parking lot after a hockey game and you see BEER ME tailgating, come by to say hey and see what is new with the BEER ME boys!
